2017-2018 Lunchroom Policy For Outside Food

Calendar 2017-20182017-2018 Lunchroom Policy For Outside Food

Beginning School Year 2017-18, Barbourville Independent will no longer allow restaurant or parent food/deliveries during breakfast and/or lunch.  Our school is a full CEP school which means that all students receive FREE breakfast and lunch daily.  A cafeteria menu will be provided monthly on our school website to ensure that all students know what is being served in the cafeteria each day.  Students will be allowed to bring lunchboxes with them in the mornings but we encourage ALL students to get a meal in the cafeteria.  This policy is in place in order for our school to continue providing students with FREE meals and to guarantee the safety of each student.  If you have any questions please contact Kim Raley, Food Service Director.

Information regarding April 18, 2017 cancellation

April 18, 2017

Dear Barbourville Ind. and Knox County Families,

We are sharing this letter online to provide you with accurate information, to discourage rumors, and ask for your assistance.

On Monday evening, April 17, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call from an outside police agency stating that a threat had been made against Knox County, Kentucky schools.  No one particular school in Knox County was mentioned and the address provided to law enforcement was an invalid address.  The conclusion of the investigation was false information being reported and at no time was there a safety concern for our students.

To ensure that our families receive accurate information and to help us discourage further rumors and threats, the decision was made to cancel school for Tuesday, April 18, 2017.   Tuesday will be NTI Day  for students.   Barbourville students should follow the procedures for NTI days.  Barbourville teachers will be available to answer emails and upload assignments beginning at 9 am.

Please know that Knox County Public Schools and the Barbourville Independent Schools will not tolerate threats of any nature and will make decisions and clearly communicate with parents if a valid threat is found.  False reports disrupt the school day and in the end result in a loss of instruction for students.

Your child’s safety is our top priority in Knox County and we understand the concerns that you may have when false information is shared.

No School Friday, Feb. 24th and Monday, Feb. 27th due to continuing illness. Both days are NTI.

Dear Barbourville Independent Parents and Students:

Due to illness the Barbourville Independent School system will be closed Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th.  The administration ask that parents and students avoid participating in large group events if they have any symptoms of an illness.  Check our school website for announcements regarding any extracurricular activities such as Governor’s Cup.  The administration and custodial staff are taking extra measures to clean and disinfect our schools.

Sincerely,

L. Kay Dixon, Superintendent
