This is a major project with a great deal of work.  You will receive grades for:
  • Group project - This includes your "Recommended Works:  African-American Literature Anthology" document, your group presentation, and the introduction/overview of your final product.  You will also receive participation grades which will be more individualized based on effort on your literary analyses and peer input.
  • Literary Analyses - Your literary analysis/analyses will be counted as a single test grade.  These are potential portfolio pieces, so do your best.  They will be scored by the Kentucky Holistic Scoring Guide, which you can link to here (scroll down for both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat formats.)

The rubric for the group part of the project is found below.

Rich, engaging content covering a broad spectrum of African-American Literature; well-researched; contains all required assignments completed correctly; appropriate choices included in anthology; reflects thorough knowledge of the genres and makes a strong case for the works presented in the anthology; reflects deep understanding of the importance of literature studied during the project; project is neat and properly formatted; project is organized properly.

Solid content that interests the reader covering a fairly wide variety of African-American literature; well-researched; contains all required assignments though some might be less than complete; mostly appropriate choices included in the anthology; good understanding of the genres and makes a solid case for the works presented for the anthology; reflects good understanding of the literature studied during the project; project is neat and mostly in proper format; few problems with organization.

Some interesting content; variety lacking; mostly weak research; contains most required assignments though some are less than complete; some appropriate choices made for inclusion in the anthology; some understanding of the genres shown with a good case made for some of the pieces included in the anthology; reflects some understanding of the importance of the literature studied; some problems with organization that detract from the project.

Little interesting content; no variety; little evidence of research; required assignments missing and/or incomplete; few appropriate choices made for inclusion in the anthology; reflects little to no understanding of the genres and a weak case for most or all of the pieces included in the anthology; reflects little to no understanding of the importance of the literature studied; project format incorrect; project not presented neatly; poor organization.
