David A. Jones, CEO of Spectrum Brands, Inc. (formerly Rayovac Corporation), will deliver the commencement address to Barbourville High's Class of 2005 on May 20th at the Shirley F. Treadway Activity Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Jones is a 1967 graduate of Barbourville High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Spaulding University, Louisville, Kentucky.
His educational background has led to an extensive and admirable reach into various notable industries. The earliest portion of his career was placed in managerial positions with the General Electric Company. He moved onward to obtain the major positions of president, chief, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board of directors with the Electrolux Corporation (1985-1989), the Regina Company (1989-1994), and Thermoscan, Inc. (1995-1996).
Currently, Mr. Jones is Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Spectrum Brands, Inc. headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company is a global consumer products supplier of batteries, lawn and garden care products, specialty pet supplies, and shoving and grooming products to the world's top 20 retailers. Spectrum Brands has approximately 10,000 employees worldwide.
Mr. Jones, as well, gives his time and effort to serve on the boards of Tyson Foods, Pentair, Inc., and Simmons Bedding Company, He is also a member of the advisory board of the University of Wisconsin Business School and the board of trustees of Union College in Barbourville.
In light of David Jones' extensive educational and administrative business experiences from both the past and the present, the fifty-one graduation seniors will have the fortunate and timely occasion to share his foresight into both his and their future abilities and opportunities as he presents the school's 90th commencement address.
