Barbourville High School was honored to have Cassie Davis and Rebekah Todd selected to participate in the 2004 Governor’s Scholars Program for five weeks in June and July. Cassie attended the program at Centre College in Danville and Rebekah completed the program on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
Each year the Governor’s Scholars Program selects students throughout the state to attend a five-week residential summer program. The program has been designed for incoming seniors to concentrate on academic and personal growth. The selected seniors have demonstrated exceptional intellectual potential, high academic achievement and creative ability. Students are nominated by their school district and a statewide selection committee selects participants for the program.
The Governor’s Scholars program seeks to help high school students achieve their academic and personal potential and cultivate their leadership capabilities. Also, the program will expand students’ horizons, develop their flexibility, creativity and critical thinking and stimulate, encourage, and reward excellence in Kentucky schools.
