GOVERNOR'S SCHOLARS


   Barbourville High School seniors Angela Centers, Frankie Hammons, and Johnny Dixon were chosen Governor's Scholars for the 2001 Summer Program. The Governor's Scholars' program is a stimulating, five-week residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students with high intellectual capacities who have finished their junior year of high school. Frankie and Johnny attended their program at Eastern Kentucky University. Angela attended the Governor's School for the Arts on Transylvania University's campus. Governor's Scholars are selected for a variety of qualities and accomplishments, including academic performance, character, interests, talent and overall potential. Frankie is the daughter of Bernetta and George Hammons. Johnny is the son of Katy Jones and Bill Matt Dixon. Angela is the daughter of Terry and Sharon Centers of Barbourville. Angela received intese daily instruction in drama, from gifted faculty, attended master classes, workshops, and performances, and participated in exciting field trips and special art events. In addition to all their extra activities, Johnny, Angela, and Frankie assist the Channel 4 broadcast of basketball games as they prepare to graduate on May 10.
