The autumn of 2001 has been one of the most dry in years, but it has been outstanding weather for the construction of the gym. The roof is on the gym in addition to the classroom and dressing room areas. Yesterday the temperature reached 76 degrees (a record?). Some rain has finally arrived and it is not so dusty. 95 % of the block has been laid while 45% of the bricks are in place. Water and sewer lines have been attached to the “City” on School Street. And the work proceeds on.

 Click to enlarge | | December 19, 2001: Board member Kenneth Cobb. The roof is completed over the dressing rooms, weight room, and over the actual gym. The crew are presently putting the final blue metal on the actual gym roof after a layer of metal, and two layers of insulation have been laid. 95% of the block and 65% of the brick have been laid. Electric and gas are turned on in the dressing room areas, fire protection-sprinklers have been installed. Drop ceiling grids, painting, doors being hung, dry walling, and mechanical work are almost finished. The mezzanine perch/ledge steel have been installed in the gym and the stairwell is almost finished. This morning, the temperature dipped below 30 degrees for the first time and the work proceeds on.

The final painting in the dressing room areas of the activity center are scheduled for next week along with heating and air ductwork inside the actual gym. And the work proceeds on.

The concrete for the concession area has been poured and the steps to the second floor are being poured today. Water fountains have been installed in the dressing rooms and weight room areas, and the roof is 95% completed with cap sheets currently being installed.
