Project Clean Stream

On October 18, a group of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students along with science teachers Kay Burgess and LaVonis Miracle and Principal Paul Middleton participated in the Project Clean Streams program which was sponsored by the PRIDE organization. The students were trained at school on how to test the pH, conductivity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen of the water. The students were also trained to read and interpret these results. Their training was then put to work as they took goggles, gloves, and various testing kits to the Brickyard Ponds, a local recreational area, and a local stream near the Brickyard Ponds.
Nets were also used to catch and observe organisms living in the water. The day proved to be very educational as well as memorable for all those involved. Future trips are planned so that all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will have an opportunity for this important learning experience. The test results can be found at this web address: http://pride.state.ky.us/report.idc
