The Parent-Teacher Organization is a wonderful way for parents to be actively involved in their child’s education. The PTO meetings are a great opportunity for parents to express their concerns and have the chance to speak with the teachers and administrators of the school. We will be having meetings on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. While attendance is not required of members, it is encouraged so you have an opportunity to stay up to date on everything. Another way to contribute when you can’t attend is by providing refreshments for a meeting. As an extra incentive for attending the meetings, we are doing a door prize from area businesses at each meeting (must be present to win).

The PTO works throughout the year to raise money for activities that we do at the school. We have several fundraisers planned that can always use parent involvement. For example, we will be doing a bake sale during the Daniel Boone Festival, selling Rada Cutlery (www.rada.com), selling restaurant discount cards, etc.

One fundraiser that we are very excited about and will be doing all year long is Box Tops for Education. These are little pink rectangles on the packages of hundreds of products that are used every day. The school receives .10 for each one that we collect, and they add up quick! Please collect these box tops and return them to your child’s teacher. We will be collecting them until the week before school is out in May. For a full list of participating products, visit www.boxtops4education.com .

The PTO sponsors open houses throughout the school year that gives parents the opportunity to have direct one-on-one time to discuss their child’s progress. There will be an open house held early in the school year so that parents and teachers can discuss expectations and goals for the upcoming year. Other open houses will be scheduled in between report cards coming out so that any problems can be addressed before grades are turned in.

The school has an account with Office Depot that rewards us for what people buy. When making purchases, please give the clerk our account number, 70039520, and we will get a 5% cash back bonus!

We encourage everyone to join and take part in all the activities that we have going on to improve our school. The membership cost is only $1.00 per year. To join, please email barbourvillepto@yahoo.com, or ask for more information at the school. Please email us with ANY questions or concerns you may have. More information about our fundraisers will be sent home with students throughout the year. If you would like to be on our email list for updates, please send your email address to barbourvillepto@yahoo.com .
